Embroidery is the process of stitching a design onto a garment or fabric using different coloured threads. A digital file is created from your artwork, (or artwork we can set up for your from your image reference.) The conversion to a digital file is called digitising, and the embroidery software then uses that file to tel the machines how and where to put each stitch, thereby making up the decoration.

The digital file for each design is programmed into the embroidery machine by our expert team of machine minders and instructs it to produce the pattern in stitches onto the item. Our job management system clearly details which logos are needed where, for each job.

Embroidered left or right chest logos generally use between 5,000-15,000 stitches to create your design. Sometimes the very intricate or large designs will have a bigger stitch count, and therefore a higher associated cost.

So, it's the number of stitches, number of thread colour changes involved, and the detail of the design will determine the length of time it takes to produce the design, and this is what dictates the cost of the digitising set up fee and also contributes to the cost per item calculation for decoration.

If you have different logos you'd like embroidered on your order, it will require a set up for each one.

To get the best results for each desing, a stabilising backing is applied to the inner part of each item when framing the items. There are multiple types of backing paper and choosing the most suitable one is based on the garment material, design style, and stitch count.

Some custom logos will have to be slightly simplified for us to acheive the best embroidery results for the finished product, and we will always talk through the best options.

EMBROIDERY FAQS

HOW MUCH IS THE SET UP (DIGITISING) FEE FOR EMBROIDERY?

The standard digitising fee is currently set at £25 + VAT per desing per size required.

how long does it take?

Standard lead time is 10 working days from payment and approval of proofs, although we do offer an express service. Prices for this are based on the time fram required, and we are happy to quote that for you as required.

During peak demand periods, the standard lead time may extend, and we will always advise when discussing your timeframe expectations.

do you have a minimum quantity for embroidery orders?

There are no minimum order quantities on any item except for caps- which is 4 caps. This can be 4 caps of the same colour or different colours, as long as the logo embroidered on them is the same design, colour and size across them all.

Please remember that the unit price will be directly affected by the quantity, so if you can order more then the unit cost will go down.

can any artwork/design be embroidered?

Most artwork can be embroidered, although some may require tweaks here and there, or layout adjustments or some simplication.

Embroidery does not like very small text or shades, fades or very small elements, it may be more suitable to another decoration method.

We will always run through your design translation to embroidery and offer alternatives where appropriate.

What are the minimum and maximum artwork sizes for embroidery?

The minimum size depends on the design and that the minimum sizes are that will enable the design to translate well into embroidery.

The maximum size is dictated by the size limits of the frame size we can use on the garments and the positioning of the design on the garment.

Do you offer embroidery on sleeves?

Yes there is an opportunity to decorate sleeves on some garments depending on the width of the sleeve opening and the desired positioning of the design on the sleeve- if it allows access for the inner frame part to be inserted in the sleeve and offers enough slack for movement once the sleeve is presented to the embroidery machine then it can be embroidered.

Most short-sleeved adult garments can be embroidered, and some long sleeved garments as well. We are always happy to discuss this option and confirm the possibilities available.

what are the artwork requirements for embroidery?

Most of the artwork file types can be used to access the design for us to digitize from. Sometimes we may need to convert a file to another file type before digitizing can take place, and if there are any issues with the artwork supplied, we will contact you before proceeding with the order.

If we need to adjust or re-do your artwork, an artwork fee may be charged depending on how long any alterations take.

do i have to pay for digitising my logo for every order?

The digitizing charge is a one-off fee per logo per size. If the logo remain the same then there will be no further charges for set up. If you change the colours of the logo we can usually alter the design without any further charges and if you change the size that you want the design produced at, to be significantly different from the original, this may incur an additional charge because it may need some of the stitch profiles changing – for example a satin stitch section may need to change to infill stitches once the size of that stitch goes beyond the limits of the stitch style.

how long will you keep my embroidery files for?

Your digitized embroidery designs will be kept on file for at least 2 years, from any order date, and usually longer, at no charge.
